Adult Ministries
The journey of Christian discipleship has many paths. At First United Methodist Church we know that a variety of activities is needed to help us mature in faith. Below are some ways that you can nurture your connection to God through study, service, music, and fellowship. The ages and interests of our congregation are diverse, and our adult programming reflects that diversity. We invite you to participate in all the ministries listed here or just the ones that catch your interest. Can't find what you are looking for? Then help us start something new according to the gifts you have been given!

"Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace"  - attributed to St. Francis of Assisi

     Other than the Lord's Prayer, no other prayer has shaped my life for as many years or through as many times -- good and bad -- as has this prayer of St. Francis.   It is a plea to God to use me for His purposes, not mine.  It is grounded in humility and service.

     I challenge you to read it, to pray it, to memorize it.  I encourage you to be transformed by these ancient words.  I know that I have been changed, time and time again, as I recall different portions of it.  My prayer is that you, too, will be moved by its humble statements of submission.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

     where there is hatred, let me sow love;

     where there is injury, pardon;

     where there is doubt, faith;

     where there is despair, hope;

     where there is darkness, light;

     where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,  Grant that I many not so much seek

     to be consoled as to console;

     to be understood as to understand;

     to be loved and to love;

For it is in giving that we receive;

     it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

     and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.  Amen.
